Earlier today, we saw the Geekbench test results for the Realme V5 from which we got to know that the device will have a 6GB RAM variant and it will also come with the new MediaTek 720 SoC. While the chipset isn’t going to awe you with its performance, what it brings to the table is 5G capabilities without breaking the bank.

At present, most users in regions outside of China are able to experience 5G on their mobile devices thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC or the mid-range Snapdragon 765 SoC found on phones such as the OnePlus Nord. However, Qualcomm’s offerings are not exactly “affordable” in many regions. Take for example the OnePlus Nord, which, in many regions is the cheapest 5G capable smartphone.

But with a price starting at INR 24,999 — the OnePlus Nord is not an affordable phone. Therefore, several smartphone vendors have decided go opt for the cheaper MediaTek 5G capable chipsets to bring phones with support for the next-gen connectivity solution to the masses. And as more users get their hands on 5G capable phones, telecom networks would be hard-pressed to roll out their 5G networks sooner rather than later. Thus, its a win-win situation for us as users.

Nevertheless, while we continue to wait for the MediaTek Dimensity SoCs to show up in more devices outside of China, the Chinese market will welcome a new affordable 5G capable deduce tomorrow, in the form of the Realme V5.

Realme V5 specifications

As mentioned above, the Realme V5 will come with the MediaTek 720 5G chipset coupled with up to 8GB RAM and a maximum of 256GB internal storage. Of course, there will be lower end variant(s) of the phone. As for the display, it will sport a 6.5-inch IPS LCD 90Hz panel with a Full HD+ resolution. Coming to the optics, the Realme V5 will have a 48MP primary sensor along with a 8MP ultra-wide lens. Further, the device will also have a dedicated macro lens and a depth sensor.

Allegedly, it will also feature a massive 5,000mAh battery which supports 30 watt fast-charging. On the software front, the device will launch with Android 10 onboard, however, it will bag the Android 11 update alongside Realme UI 2.0 soon. The Realme V5 will be available in 3 colors — silver, green, and blue. Of course, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to know whether or not these details are accurate or even in the same ball park.
