Many Android phone makers have partnered with luxury car makers to introduce special edition variants of their flagships. We saw this with the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition and even with the Oppo Find X Lamborghini Edition. It now seems another brand under the BBK Electronics umbrella has partnered with BMW to bring a special edition smartphone soon. Well, we’re talking about iQOO.
iQOO is Vivo’s sub-brand in the same way as Realme comes under Oppo. The iQOO 3 was one of the first smartphones to come with the Snapdragon 865 SoC and it was also the first phone to be launched under the iQOO branding. Unfortunately, the iQOO 3 didn’t have anything to differentiate itself from the competition which is why the phone soon lost all media attention. It now seems as though iQOO is ready to give it another shot.
The company is expected to release the successor to the iQOO 3 which will apparently be called the iQOO 5. Yes, much like other Chinese OEMs, iQOO has also decided to skip the number 4 from its product line. According to leaks and rumors, the phone will come with some of the best specifications that are currently available in 2020, more on that below. But the BMW Edition of the iQOO 5 is what’s really going to make the device stand out.
A poster was shared on Weibo suggesting that the iQOO 5 will have a BMW Edition. Further, it’s possible that the device will feature a yellow and black color combination judging by the car’s color in the post. Of course, we’ll have to wait for more details before we can confirm this. Nevertheless, the concept of launching phones with luxury car brandings does not sit well for some. This is because the so-called special edition devices often do not warrant the extra price since most of what the user is paying for is simply a different paint job.
There are a few extra gimmicks and features that are usually added to such phones but the core experience is almost identical to the standard models. Let us know your thoughts on Special Edition phones in the comments below. Here are the alleged specifications of the iQOO 5:
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC
- 6.44-inch 120Hz refresh rate curved display
- UFS 3.1 high-speed internal storage
- LPDDR5 RAM
- 120W ultra-fast flash charging support
- 65W PD charging support
The device is expected to be released on August 17 in India. It’s also expected to be priced at around INR 50,000.
